About Us
Founded in 1999, FWPA is a college preparatory public school for students in grades six through ten. The school is part of Federal Way Public Schools. Students choose to attend the Academy and admission is by a lottery system. In 2014, 138 students applied for the 60 sixth-grade openings available for fall, 2014. Student enrollment is currently about 300 for grades six through ten. As a public school, there is no cost to attend, and the school operates under the same per-student budget allocation as corresponding schools in the school district.
Federal Way Public Academy is a school of choice for parents and students in the Federal Way Public Schools. It is a college-preparatory school that emphasizes a challenging “traditional” academic curriculum for every student in every subject. Students are provided with optimum conditions to perform their best. Under the guidance of a faculty that understands and truly enjoys working with adolescents, they are given individual attention only found in small school settings with low stress, high challenge, and allowance for creative freedom.
Federal Way Public Academy encourages students’ understanding of their place in the local community and the world as it helps them to identify their individual strengths, establish their own values, and stimulates them to seek and accept challenges.
